11th Annual Summer Tabla Workshop with Shawn Mativetsky
When: June 28–July 4, 2021
Where: Schulich School of Music of McGill University, Montreal, QC, Canada
Tuition: $425 CAD (early registration discount of $50 before April 1)
Overview: During this intensive, hands-on workshop, participants will learn tabla in the tradition of the Benares (Varanasi) gharana. The workshop is open to all levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced). The schedule includes daily group practice sessions, group classes, and special topic sessions. Classes are scheduled during the daytime (the detailed schedule will be made available to participants in June). Students will live and breathe tabla for the duration of the workshop! Should the public health situation prevent us from meeting in person, the workshop will take place online via Zoom. For participants from out of town, reasonably priced accommodations are available at the McGill Royal Victoria College (RVC) residences, conveniently located next door to the Schulich School of Music.

Clazz International Music Festival

Tuition: $3,000 (single room) or $2,400 (shared room) U.S. dollars
Faculty: Shawn Mativetsky (tabla, percussion), Aldo Mazza (percussion), Claudio Sbrolli (drum set), and many others (winds, strings, piano, guitar, composition)
Overview: Clazz, a music festival at the intersection of classical and jazz idioms, offers a one-of-a-kind experience. Set in the historic center of Arcidosso, Italy, and situated in the heart of Tuscany, Clazz International Music Festival features a fully integrated musical journey for attendees. While some musicians will come to focus on their classical repertoire, others will be more inclined to harness their improvisational abilities. Clazz allows students the freedom to choose their own educational path.
