Donation, to honor the organization’s 60th anniversary, will endow contest in perpetuity.
(INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA) — The Percussive Arts Society (PAS) is excited to announce that Tom Siwe has made a gracious donation to permanently endow the society’s Composition Contest.
“On behalf of everyone at PAS, we are thrilled that Tom has chosen PAS as the beneficiary of this gift, which will allow us to continue growing our composition contest, while encouraging composers to write new compositions for Percussion,” said PAS Executive Director Joshua Simonds.
In honor of Siwe’s generous gift, the composition contest will now be known as the Percussive Arts Society Composition Contest Funded by the Thomas V. Siwe Endowment.
The PAS Composition Contest started back in 1974 and has been an annual competition ever since. The purpose of the contest is to encourage and reward composers who write music for percussion instruments and to increase the number of quality compositions written for percussion. Next year's theme (2022) will be Solo Percussion with Chamber Ensemble and with the new gift, $5,000 will be awarded in total to various composers.
Siwe gifted PAS the funds in honor of the society’s 60th anniversary. The organization was founded in 1961 to help percussion students and professionals grow artistically and professionally. PAS proudly awards over $60,000 in scholarships, grants, and awards each year.
