PAS is proud to announce our Hall of Fame Class of 2018: Mitchell Peters, Joe Porcaro, and Richard Weiner. The Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held Thursday, November 15, 2018 before the PASIC Thursday Evening Concert.

About the PAS Hall of Fame
The Percussive Arts Society Hall of Fame was established in 1972 to recognize the contributions of the most highly regarded leaders in percussion performance, education, research, scholarship, administration, composition and the industry. Inductees demonstrate the highest ideals and professional integrity to their profession to bring about significant events, substantive improvements in the world of percussion, and the betterment of the profession through exemplary services or acts.
Mitchell Peters
Mitchell Peters, a prodigious composer, recording artist, music professor, and former principal timpanist and percussionist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, passed away on October 28 in Encinitas, CA, at the age of 82.
Peters joined the Los Angeles Philharmonic as a percussionist in 1969, became its co-principal percussionist from 1973 to 1982, and retired as its principal timpanist and percussionist in 2006. He performed under such conductors as Zubin Mehta, Carlo-Maria Giulini, André Previn, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Leonard Bernstein, Pierre Boulez, Sir Simon Rattle, John Williams, Michael Tilson Thomas and countless others.
Peters recorded extensively with both the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Dallas Symphony, in addition to various appearances on motion picture and television soundtracks. His timpani playing can be heard on ABC’s World News Tonight‘s opening theme, in the movie 2010: The Year We Make Contact, and the original Battlestar Galactica.
Joe Porcaro
Joe Porcaro is one of the most recorded percussionist/drummers of our time. He is the father of the late Jeff Porcaro and Mike Porcaro. Joe's musical spectrum ranges from jazz and rock to opera and symphonic. He has recorded with jazz artists including Stan Getz, Gerry Mulligan, Freddie Hubbard, Don Ellis, Mike Manieri and rock/pop artists such as TOTO and Madonna. His credits includes numerous television shows and movies. Joe is the author of two drum books: Joe Porcaro's Drum Set Method, and Odd Times - Patterns For Rock Jazz & Latin At The Drumset.
Joe is currently the co-director of drum studies at the Los Angeles College of Music in Pasadena, California, and continues to be one of the most highly regarded drum and percussion teachers in the world.
Richard Weiner
Richard Weiner is the former Principal Percussionist of The Cleveland Orchestra and Co-Chair of the PAS Symphonic Committee.
Hired by George Szell in 1963, he was appointed principal in 1968 where he led the section for 43 years. In 2011 he received The Cleveland Orchestra Distinguished Service Award presented yearly to a person or persons to recognize extraordinary service to The Cleveland Orchestra.
Since his retirement in 2011, Richard continues to occasionally perform with the orchestra and remains an active faculty member at The Cleveland Institute of Music, a position he has held since 1963. Richard has also performed and presented at numerous PASICs, most recently in 2017 with the Symphonic Emeritus Section.
